Purdue's first hedge fund society
We are a group of students who felt the need of a club that explores how hedge funds invest, and so we built one that combines workshops, lectures, simulations, and competitions. Specifically, we mirror the operations of a real hedge fund: by working in individual pods — teams with disparate trading strategies and roles — we provide members with exposure to distinct functions, across equities, derivatives, and macro. BoilerHedge is open to all majors and experience levels.
Our team learnt so while exploring how hedge funds operate, and felt that, as a club, we could help simplify learning for those at Purdue.
Joining a quantitative organization often comes with plenty of prerequisites, and so we start from zero and embrace members of all experience levels.
The idea of a mock hedge fund is exciting: it allows for collaborative brainstorming and learning, all while testing these very ideas safely in live markets through simulations.
Biweekly or triweekly meetings.
A draft syllabus is on the curriculum page.
Members build strategies within pods, implement live, and present at the end of the semester.
Build a backtest, code a pairs trade, calculate risk metrics. Laptops out, starting from zero.
People working at hedge funds and asset managers, on what the job is really like and how recruiting works.
Before this club had a name, its founders were already teaming up: a Top 10 national finish at the Wells Fargo Wealth Management Case Competition, and a CSBS community-bank case study built around Centier Bank, just down the road from campus.
That's the culture we're building. Join, and you'll compete too — stock pitches, trading simulations, and the case competition that closes out the year. No spectators.
The first meeting each fall is a kickoff social. Just show up.
